For decades Fire Island has been a haven for queer musicians and composers, including the late Jerry Herman, who we have to thank for beloved shows such as Hello, Dolly! and La Cage aux Folles. To celebrate and continue this tradition, we will showcase a lineup of original songs written and performed by FI residents. Please note: the last ferry on 9/25 leaves Cherry Grove at 8:45 PM.

1938. Cherry Grove, Fire Island. As Beatrice Farrar's flamboyant friends from the New York theatre scene descend on her summer home, she hopes the party she's planned will be smooth sailing. But when several of the "family folk" arrive for the festivities, things take a decidedly stormy turn. Little does Beatrice realize, but it is the eve of the great hurricane of 1938, an event which changes Fire Island in ways that reverberate to this very day.

The Meat Rack Historical Nature Walk connects the Cherry Grove Community House and Theater and the Carrington Estate—two of only 35 sites nationwide recognized on the National Register of Historic Places for their LGBTQIA+ history. Guided by local historians and ecological experts, discover the stories, landscapes, and legacy that make Fire Island second only to New York City in nationally recognized LGBTQIA+ historic sites.

Fire Island is gone. A cataclysmic storm has breached the island's last defenses, leaving the Pines swallowed by the Atlantic Ocean. All residents have evacuated—except Harry, a seventy-year-old man unwilling to abandon his submerged home. When Casey, a seventeen-year-old deckhand from the Sayville Ferry Service, arrives to pull him out, the two find themselves caught between survival and surrender, history and erasure.

This 25-minute solo song story explores the special camaraderie of five gay men in a summer share as they enjoy a final beach day at the close of the 1982 season in the Pines. Performed by baritone Oliver Worthington and pianist Johan Botes. Please note: the last ferry leaves Fire Island Pines at 8:00 PM on 9/26 and 9/27.
